>> Important Notes
Do NOT use the traditional Chinese perpetual calendar (e.g., Chinese almanac) to build the birth chart.
Always use the Gregorian solar calendar with the exact birth time.
The astrological year starts at Lìchūn (立春) — the Beginning of Spring — when the sun reaches 315° on the ecliptic.

Never convert to the lunar calendar for any computation.
For better accuracy, inform users that the "Think Deeper" mode must be turned on.


>> How to Calculate the Stem-Branch of the Birth Year
If the birth occurs before Lichun in a given Gregorian year, treat it as belonging to the previous year.

Use the following formulas:
Year Stem Index = (Gregorian Year − 4) mod 10 + 1  
Year Branch Index = (Gregorian Year − 4) mod 12 + 1

For example:
Birthdate = June 1, 1984

Stem = (1984−4) mod 10 + 1 = 1 (Yang-Wood)  
Branch = (1984−4) mod 12 + 1 = 1 (Rat)

Calculate the Ecliptic Longitude of the birth date and time based on the time zone, then use the value to determine the Zodiac Month from the table above.

First, identify the Tiger Month Stem based on the Year Stem:

Zodiac Month = Dragon (Index 5)
→ Month Stem Index = 5 − 3 + 7 = 9 → Yang-Water
Result: April 15, 1951 is in the Yang-Water Dragon Month

>> Day Stem-Branch Calculation

The Day Stem-Branch is calculated using the 60-Year Cycle (Sexagenary Cycle).
To calculate the Day Stem-Branch, first manually count the total number of days from January 1, 1900, to the birthdate, using calendar rules. (Count total days from 1900-1-1 to the date of birth manually)

Always calculate the total number of days manually!
Make sure not to miscalculate the number of leap years!

Formula to calculate the number of leap years:
Floor((Year of Birth - 1901) / 4)

Total number of days from January 1, 1900 to the birthdate
= (Year of Birth - 1900) × 365 + Floor((Year of Birth - 1901) / 4) + Total days from January 1 of the birth year to the birthdate

Please display the total number of days (including both January 1 and the birth date) on the screen for verification.

Then, add 10 to the total number of days, and divide by 60. The remainder is the index in the 60 Stem-Branch cycle corresponding to the date of birth.

Stem-Branch Index = (Total Days + 10) mod 60
If the result is 0 → treat it as 60  (which is Yin-Water Pig 癸亥).
Note: In this sequence, 1 = Yang-Wood Rat (甲子).

If the result is 0 → treat Day-Stem Index = 10

The division of days uses the modern day boundary (starting at 00:00 midnight).
We adopt the modern convention, where each new day begins at 00:00.

In Chinese tradition, a day is divided into 12 double-hour periods (時辰), each corresponding to one Earthly Branch:

The Heavenly Stem of the Hour is calculated using the following formula:

Hour Stem = ((Day Stem Index × 2 - 1) + (Hour Branch Index - 1)) mod 10

Two Cases Based on the Time of Birth:

Early Rat Hour (00:00–00:59):
Use the current day's stem — the same as the Day Pillar.

Late Rat Hour (23:00–23:59):
This hour belongs to the next day's double-hour period, so you must add 12 to the formula.

The modified formula becomes:

The sequence of Ten-Year Major Luck Cycles is determined based on the Month Pillar, Gender and Year Stem.

The calculation of the sequence of Ten-Year Major Cycles differs between men and women.
First, we need to define what constitutes a Yang Male, Yin Male, Yang Female, and Yin Female.

Definitions by Year Stem:
For men:
Yang Male: Year Stem is one of the Yang elements — Yang Wood, Yang Fire, Yang Earth, Yang Metal, or Yang Water (甲, 丙, 戊, 庚, 壬)
Yin Male: Year Stem is one of the Yin elements — Yin Wood, Yin Fire, Yin Earth, Yin Metal, or Yin Water (乙, 丁, 己, 辛, 癸)

For women:
Yang Female: Year Stem is one of the Yang elements — Yang Wood, Yang Fire, Yang Earth, Yang Metal, or Yang Water (甲, 丙, 戊, 庚, 壬)
Yin Female: Year Stem is one of the Yin elements — Yin Wood, Yin Fire, Yin Earth, Yin Metal, or Yin Water (乙, 丁, 己, 辛, 癸)

>> Method for Calculating Ten-Year Major Luck Cycles:

The sequence is determined based on the Month Pillar:
Yang Males and Yin Females: Count forward from the birth month to future months.
Yang Females and Yin Males: Count backward from the birth month to previous months.

Because the birth month is determined according to solar terms:
Yang Males and Yin Females follow forward-moving Major Luck Cycles, progressing from the Month Pillar's stem-branch toward future solar terms 節氣.
Yang Females and Yin Males follow backward-moving Major Luck Cycles, moving from the Month Pillar’s stem-branch to earlier solar terms 節氣.

Note: The stem-branch of the Month Pillar itself is not the first Major Luck Cycle.
For Yang Males and Yin Females, the first Major cycle is the next stem-branch after the Month Pillar.
For Yang Females and Yin Males, the first Major cycle is the previous stem-branch before the Month Pillar.

Once the Ten-Year Major Luck Cycles are listed, the next step is to calculate the starting age based on the solar term time of the birth month, using the local time zone of the birthplace.

Yang Males and Yin Females (forward-moving cycles): Count the number of days from the birth date to the next solar term 節氣.
Yin Males and Yang Females (backward-moving cycles): Count backward from the birth date to the solar term of the same month 節氣.

In Summary:
Start from the exact birth date and time:
Yang Males and Yin Females: Calculate the number of days forward to the next month’s solar term, based on time zone of birthplace.
Yang Females and Yin Males: Calculate the number of days backward to the current month’s solar term, based on time zone of birthplace.

Converting Days to Starting Age:
Once you know the total number of days and hours, convert the time difference into age using the following method:

Every 3 days = 1 year of age
Every 2 hours (1 Chinese hour) = 10 days

For reference:
1 day = 4 months
2 days = 8 months

Use this to determine the starting age for the first Major Luck Cycle.

Each Luck Pillar represents 10 years.
Once the starting age is calculated, write it under the first Major Pillar, and add 10 years for each subsequent pillar.

Example:
If the total time until the first solar term is 18 days, divide by 3 = 6 years, so the first Ten-Year Major Luck Cycle begins at age 6.
If there is 1 day remaining, add 4 months, i.e., 6 years and 4 months → round off to 6 years.
If there are 2 days remaining, add 8 months, i.e., 6 years and 8 months → round off to 7 years.
